For Love

For Love is an ongoing project; a hopeful foray into non-capitalist and non-transactional interaction. Dedicated to my father, a mystical human who seemed to drift through this life effortlessly defying convention and prioritizing happiness, I hope this project can create ripples that spread his spirit and the spirits of all those who choose to question our collective deep-rooted concept of value.

The action itself is simple, and something anyone with a skill (everyone) can partake in. For me this manifests as providing design services completely unencumbered by capitalist transaction. I accept any client who reaches out, with no qualifying conditions. I work on one project at a time, with a certain number of hours dedicated to For Love per week. I hope those who benefit from this project, will carry it forward and find their own way to operate outside our current value system, For Love.

Mood Bake

Mood Bake is the brain child of Madison Ortega, a young and talented baker who recently moved to NYC to start her entrepreneurial baking journey.

Madison’s mood board

The Brief

Madison reached out to me looking for a logo design for her brand new business. Her aesthetic is psychedelic bubbly cute with a 70s saturation, and her baking style includes beautifully decadent and colorful cakes permeated with sunshine vibes and plenty of pink. My assignment was to make a visual representation of everything Madison and Mood Bake is.

The Solution

Madison’s aesthetic was a natural and fun design style for me to work in, and I took great pleasure in creating and refining logo options for Mood Bake. The final logo that she chose exemplified both her personal and baking style and features elements she uses in her cake designs such as drippy frosting, piping, and berries & flowers. My aim was to create a logo so sweet that you would want to eat it up, and I hope that I succeeded. The greatest success of this project though was Madison expressing to me that she was inspired by the For Love project, and hoped to find a way to incorporate something similar into her business.
